Pantheon - Navona
This itinerary starts from Piazza del Gesù (behind Piazza Venezia) where is located the Church of Jesus, linked to the Jesuits and the figure of Ignatius of Loyola, buried there. Of particular interest the fresco of the vault of Baciccia.
Following Via del Gesù you come to the Church of St. Maria Sopra Minerva (Mon-Fri 7 / 19, Sat-Sun 7 / 13 to 15.30 / 19), with a Gothic interior and where you can admire the statue of the Risen Christ by Michelangelo's and the frescoes in the Carafa Chapel by Filippino Lippi.
Few steps and you are in Piazza della Rotonda with the Pantheon, one of the most famous monuments in Rome.
Take Via del Seminario and after two hundreds meters you get to the Church of St. Ignatius (Working 7,30 / 19 - Holiday 9 / 19) where you can admire the masterpiece of perspective illusion of false dome by Andrea Pozzo.
Go back on Piazza della Rotonda and reach the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, one of the most representative of the late Roman Baroque, quite interesting is the sacristy.
From here you head to Via delle Coppelle, up to the Church of St. Augustine where is the Madonna dei Pellegrini by Caravaggio.
Not far away is the Church of St. Louis de France (10/12, 30 - 16/19, closed Thursday afternoon) where, among other masterpieces, there are three works by Caravaggio on the life of S. Matthew "S. Matthew and the Angel", "Martyrdom of St. Matthew" and "The Calling of St. Matthew".
You reach Corso Rinascimento, turn right until you reach the Palace of Wisdom, former seat of the Roman University. An elegant courtyard leads to the Church of St. Ivo alla Sapienza, a masterpiece by F. Borromini.
In front it is worth getting to Piazza Massimi, enchanting in the Roman column in the center.
You go back and, at the end of Corso Rinascimento, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, you find the Church of St. Andrea della Valle, with remarkable frescoes by Domenichino.
Now you are ready to go to Piazza Navona, one of the most beautiful squares of Rome, embellished with fountains (including the Fountain of the Rivers of G.L. Bernini) and the Church of S. Agnese in Agone, completed by F. Borromini.
Pasquino, you come out in the square which is named after Pasquino one of the famous "talking statues" of Rome's history.
From here, take Via del Teatro Pace to reach the Church of St. Maria della Pace, with attached the remarkable Bramante's Cloister, often a venue for important exhibitions.
